Your analytics show hundreds of visitors a month. Some of them are definitely your kind of customer. Yet the phone is quiet and the contact form inbox is empty. Before spending more on traffic, fix the leaks — it is almost always cheaper to convert more of the visitors you already have.
Here are seven fixes we make on almost every small business website we audit.
1. Make it fast on a phone
Most Indian visitors arrive on a mid-range Android phone over mobile data. If your site takes five seconds to show anything useful, many will leave before it loads. Compress images, remove heavy sliders and unnecessary plugins, and test with Google PageSpeed Insights. Aim for the page to be usable within two to three seconds.
2. Say what you do in the first screen
A visitor should understand three things without scrolling: what you offer, who it is for and what to do next. Replace vague headlines like "Welcome to Excellence" with something specific: "Physiotherapy clinic in Sector 56 — same-day appointments". Specific beats clever every time.
3. Give one clear next step
Pages with ten competing links often get zero clicks on the one that matters. Choose a primary action — call, WhatsApp, book a visit or request a quote — and repeat it in the header, after key sections and at the bottom of the page. Make the button look like a button.
4. Add WhatsApp and click-to-call
Many Indian customers would rather send a WhatsApp message than fill a form. Add a WhatsApp button with a pre-filled message and make your phone number tappable on mobile. These two changes alone often produce the quickest lift in enquiries.
5. Shorten your forms
Every extra field costs you enquiries. For a first contact, name, phone and one question are usually enough. Ask for the rest on the call. If you genuinely need more information, explain why ("so we can share an accurate quote").
6. Show proof, close to the decision
People need reassurance before they contact a business they have never heard of. Add trust signals near your calls to action:
- Google review rating and two or three short testimonials with names.
- Logos of clients, certifications or associations.
- Photos of your real team and premises.
- Clear pricing or at least a starting price.
7. Measure every enquiry
You cannot improve what you do not track. Set up Google Analytics 4 events for form submissions, phone clicks and WhatsApp clicks. Within a few weeks you will know which pages and traffic sources actually produce enquiries — and which ones only produce visits.
Quick test: ask a friend who has never seen your website to find your price, your location and how to contact you on their phone. Time them, and watch where they hesitate. Those hesitations are your to-do list.
Where to start
If you only have an afternoon, start with numbers 4 and 3: add WhatsApp and click-to-call, and make one call to action obvious on every page. Then work through speed, headlines and proof over the next few weeks.
